RETROFIT: ST. PATRICK'S CATHEDRAL GEOTHERMAL DESIGN HIGHLIGHT
St. Patrick’s Cathedral in New York City is the largest gothic Catholic cathedral in the country and the 138-year-old landmark building underwent a renovation project.
The Archdioceses selected a standing column well geothermal system to replace the conventional HVAC configurations. This included the drilling of 10 wells that extended from 600 feet to 2,200 feet underneath the building to reach groundwater to heat and cool the building. The geothermal system reduced the building energy usage by more than 30% and saved more than 207,000 lbs of GHG emissions
